Kameron McClain

Position: General Manager (previous position AGM Powell)

Location: Gahanna, OH

Employed since November 2017

Are you originally from the Columbus area?  If not, how did you come to live in Columbus?

I’m from Pickerington, OH. Never lived more than 30 mins from Ohio State’s campus.

You were recently promoted to General Manager.  Congratulations! How did you get into the Restaurant Industry?

I started working in the restaurant industry when I was 16 and worked my way up in multiple concepts making it as GM for Bob Evans and City BBQ.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

The team aspect and building and molding that team.

What three words would you use to describe City Barbeque?

Unique, family, fulfilling.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Determined, consistent, family- oriented.

If you could switch jobs with anyone else in the company, whose job would you want and why?

I don’t think I would just switch jobs with anyone. I like the grind and the process. I like achieving goals that are set. The goal is always plus 1.

Do you have any hobbies or belong to any groups outside of work?

I officiate (ref) high school football and I’m currently ranked 32nd in the state as an official.

Do you have a favorite family tradition or one that you want to start?

Family dinner every Sunday.

What is the most important thing you have learned in life?

Everyone is taught to treat others the way you want to be treated. I don’t completely agree with that. Something I learned a few years ago that changed the way I think and interact is that you should treat people how they want to be treated.

Do you have any tips for others on how to deal with the stressful situations facing the world right now, including COVID-19?

Control what you can control, do your best to engage in healthy distractions, value the loved ones in your life.  We can get through this if everyone takes care of their business and does what they are supposed to, and have faith that they will.

The role in the company I would most want to be in is a Director of Operations. I enjoy the opportunities to make an impact on large scales. My passion is centered around operational excellence and people development. Being Director of Operations would allow me to continue doing what I love on a larger scale.

Do you have any hobbies or belong to any groups outside of work?

I enjoy coaching my son with Wrestling. When not at work I am typically fishing and boating with my wife (Mindy) and two children (Sean and Ava)

My family and I like to travel. Whether we go Camping, Hiking, Beach or International travel. We love seeing new places.

What is the most important thing you have learned in life?

Most important thing learned in life for me is the importance of family and surrounding yourself around those who make you happiest.  Be kind, work hard, and make an impact on the life of those around you.

Do you have any tips for others on how to deal with the stressful situations facing the world right now, including COVID-19?

We are going through difficult uncertain times which can be scary for many people.  Advice is to stay positive and be smart in your actions. Remember we will get through this.  Keep your mind on goals and surround yourself with those who you love as much as possible, as safe as possible. Always be kind to each other. Again, as I stated before, be the best version of yourself and make a positive impact on others.

chicken bacon alfredo lasagna

The family and I make a chicken bacon Alfredo lasagna that is amazing. Hard to give exact recipe with measurements. But I'll give the ingredients.

Simple, delicious and kids love it and they have fun helping cook.

This recipe was something we concocted one day when wanting lasagna, but my kids don't like tomato sauce, so we made a compromise and voila, it became a staple in the Steiger house

DIRECTIONS

  1. Sauté a mixture of bacon, onions and garlic.

  2. Mix ricotta cheese, one egg, mozzarella, a little parmesan cheese and butter or milk in a mixing bowl.

  3. Add shredded grilled chicken, and the bacon, onion garlic mixture. I add a little dried Italian seasoning as well.

  4. Lay out al dente lasagna and layer with mixture and Alfredo sauce. 3 times

  5. Top with mozzarella cheese more Alfredo sauce.

  6. Bake until golden brown and enjoy.
